Finishing a bathtub is NOT always an option

Tub refinishing has long been considered the best way to repair a bathtub. It’s cheaper, less messy and truly hassle-free. More importantly, the repair costs are only half of those of replacing your tub. And it’s not just one of those quick temporary fixes, it’s durable!
However, resurfacing is not a guaranteed solution to repairing your tub.The original surface must be in good condition because with resurfacing nothing is replaced. Here are the problems that you don’t have to resurface to fix them:

Crack in the tub

Fiberglass is known for its ability to crack, there are two types of cracks:

  1. The first type of crack is a web-like formation
  2. on the surface as the gel layer dries over time. This type of crack can be repaired with a simple resurfacing job. You can sand out the cracks and repair without worrying that the cracks will come back!
  3. The second type of crack is a structural crack.
  4. This cannot be fixed by
  5. superficial reconstruction. Resurfacing may cover these cracks for a while, but in the long run this solution does not work. Resurfacing only covers structural cracks but does not address the cause of the cracks. It only acts as a cosmetic repair agent, leaving cracks underneath. For that you need the truth
  6. Repair cracks, chips and holes
  7. . If not, you’re just in trouble.

Companies can now inject a layer of pressure-absorbing foam under the tub, which helps prevent further damage. However, this fix does not work when water starts leaking through the cracks. In such situations, you need to replace the drum.

Rust behind the bathtub

Rust is similar to cancer. At the right time, it will spread to all parts of your bath. Therefore, the best option is to cut the area affected by rust and treat this area. Once the rusting process begins, it is a process that cannot be stopped. Resurfacing can extend drum life. Unfortunately, this is not a guaranteed long-term solution. Surface rust is not a real problem. However, tubs that need repair due to rust or rust holes under the tub should be replaced, not resurfaced. It is important to continuously monitor the rust area if this is the problem before the tub is closed. Always call your refinishing company when you notice the rust problem coming back to fix the problem before it gets worse. Your rust problem will still exist after it appears, it’s just a matter of when you need to replace the tub with a new one.
Tub finishing takes about 4-5 hours. The bath will take another day and a half to cure, often up to two days just to be sure. Cure time is critical if you want a durable, long lasting finish. A bathtub replacement costs an average of $459 while a bathtub replacement costs an average of $3,020. Obviously, replacing the bathtub is a much cheaper way. However, there are times when the tub is too old to repair and your only option is to replace the tub. Tubs can last up to 20 years even after renovation. Bathtubs have a very long lifespan, especially when refurbished and maintained well throughout their life.

Renovating your bathtub is not always an option

Obviously, resurfacing is not the right solution for all your tub repair jobs. It’s just a cosmetic fix that doesn’t fix the underlying issues. The good news is that a floating bathtub can serve you for a long time. Unfortunately, when tub repair doesn’t work, you can’t avoid tub replacement.
