Multi-read content how to install kitchen sink sprayer

If your kitchen sink has a free-standing nozzle — the one on the side of the main faucet — and it fails, you may think the entire faucet needs to be replaced. However, you can save money by buying andinstall alternativeinstead of the sprayer. Depending on whether you want the plastic, chrome, or stainless steel model, a new spray can cost you $10 less or $30 more.

Plumbing Checklist

This guide will show you how to replace an existing submersible sprayer. If you want to add a new sprayer, you’ll need an existing mounting hole in your sink, or you can install a hose with a built-in hose that expands to spray.

What do you need:

  • New side sprayer – available at most plumbing and repair supply stores
  • Two pairs of channel forceps
  • Sink or adjustable wrench
  • Plumber

Follow these steps:

  1. Turn off the water by turning off the faucet shutoff valves under the sink or the main shutoff valve for the whole house.
  2. Under the sink, disconnect the spray nozzle from the faucet body. To do this, grab a pair of pliers and hold the copper connection of the faucet body, then unscrew the connector nut from the hose with the other pair of pliers.
  3. Over sink, pull sprayer nozzle up and out of mounting hole.
  4. If your old sprayer has a housing, loosen the nut under the sink with a wrench. Then remove the casing.
  5. Take your new sprayer and insert the fitting into the mounting hole. If the cover does not have a spacer around the base, place a small amount of plumber’s putty under the base to create a cushion when the cover is mounted on the sink.
  6. Under the sink, use a wrench or pliers to tighten the nut that attaches to the back of the sprayer box. You may need to hold the housing in place if it twists when you tighten the nut.
  7. Above the sink, insert the new spray hose onto the housing and position it as desired.
  8. Under the sink, attach the threaded coupler from the sprayer to the diverter knob on the faucet body. Use one pair of pliers to hold the fitting and the other to tighten the housing nut. This will secure the hose to the faucet.
  9. Check that all connections are tight. Then turn the water back on and check that the sprayer is not leaking.
  10. We recommend running hot water through the new sprayer to soften the hoses. This will make it easier to extend and move around the sprayer when it’s time to use it.

If you’re not sure you’re buying the right replacement sprayer for your kitchen, you can take the old one apart and take it to a plumber or home repair service. They should be able to make sure you have the right product.

Faucet Plus Side Sprayer

The simplest way to add a spray nozzle to your kitchen faucet is the classic: a spray hose added to an unused hole on your sink, off to one side from your faucet. This option requires you to have a spare drilling in your sink, but many do (usually covered by a small plate or plug).

Do you have to install side sprayer on kitchen faucet?

The faucet will function without connecting the sprayer. It attaches to a quick connect valve that would remain shut if the additional hose isn’t connected. You’d just be paying extra for the side spray that you’re not using.

Where is the diverter in my kitchen faucet?

Why does my sink sprayer has no pressure?

Each sprayer has a diverter valve inside the faucet that sends the water to the sprayer. If this is clogged or broken, the sprayer loses water pressure. Usually, the sprayer receives no water if this part is broken. To fix this issue, take off the faucet handle by unscrewing the retaining nut and pulling it off.

How does a sink sprayer diverter work?

The diverter inside your kitchen faucet redirects the water from the faucet spout to your faucet sprayer when you press the sprayer trigger. When you squeeze the trigger, the water pressure drops to engage the diverter. This stops the water flow at the spout and moves it to the sprayer.

The diverter is usually located inside the faucet. When you press the trigger on the spray nozzle, the water flowing into your faucet is diverted to the sprayer.
