You know those cleaning chores you never seem to do? That’s how things go with our kitchen and dining chairs.

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

I know some of you will think I’m crazy to have padded chairs for our kitchen table, but I love the way they look and the kids {especially!} are past the age of constantly spilling milk or drop their food. Since the seats were covered in slips, I thought I could take them in the wash, but it turns out they just wipe clean in place. I’ve treated them with a stain remover, but they actually look a little worse from the wear and tear of the last few months…

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

I’m usually pretty good at cleaning up food spills that happen, but the chairs look really gross – especially on the chair and above the {table!} chair when my mom started it. When I first asked when I was going to buy new chairs, I thought it was time to make cleaning them a little higher priority. 😉

SANITATION SUPPLY

  • dishwasher soap
  • hydrogen peroxide {I like to add a spray tip to my bottle for easier application. Make sure to always store it in a dark bottle as it will deteriorate quickly when exposed to light}
  • HomeRight Plus Steam Engine
  • {optional}
  • Microfiber Cloth {I love Norwex Cloth}

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

CLEANING INSTRUCTIONS

  • Fill a large bowl with hot water and a few drops of dish soap. {NOTE: It is more important to use HOT water if you are
  • Not
  • use a steam cleaner} Wet a microfiber cloth and dampen the entire area you wish to clean for a quick scrub. You want the stuff to stay wet throughout the area you’re cleaning. I made full seats, backs and sides for all of our chairs, so I pretty much covered the entire surface. If you’re working on a smaller surface, make sure you don’t have any hard edges on the wet end, as this could lead to water spots.
  • Spray any heavily soiled areas or stains liberally with hydrogen peroxide. Leave to act for at least 10 minutes. I have used it safely on a number of different fabrics, but
  • Always do a spot test on the fabric you are using.
  • Then it’s time to steam clean! I tested using a scrub brush and microfiber cloth with the squeegee attachments. If you just want an overall clean or have a more delicate fabric, I would choose a microfiber cloth; However, I prefer to use the scrub brush on the dirtiest areas and have found that it also works better for cleaning corners. Even so, even with the cloth, I can still get a lot of dirt…

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

  • Run the steamer over the mesh fabric until all areas of the chair are covered. Give heavily soiled areas more time and scrub as needed with a scrub brush or microfiber pad.
  • If you don’t have a steam cleaner, you’ll need to use a little more force and scrub the seat with a microfiber cloth and a water/dish soap mixture. If any stains remain, treat again with hydrogen peroxide and scrub again.
  • Let it dry and you’ll have a brand new chair! I was really surprised at how well they came out!

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

To keep them looking like new {and make them easier to clean in the future}, spray on a stain remover that you can buy at any hardware store. It’s worth over $10 or so!

Great tips for cleaning upholstered chairs or other furniture.

The high temperature, high pressure steam easily loosens and dissolves dirt, grease and grime {which means much less friction!!!} and kills 99.9% of germs and bacteria.do not havethe use of any chemicals. I especially like it for cleaning our kitchens and bathrooms, and the detachable handpiece makes it easy to get into one of those small, hard-to-clean spaces.
