How to Clean a Toilet Tank—and Keep It That Way

Photo: istockphoto.com

If the last time youhave a sparkling bathroomIf you don’t completely cover the smell or it takes concentrated effort to remove brown rust stains from your toilet rim, your job may not be done. Don’t blame yourself for missing one place, because this one is often overlooked: the toilet. Its lid doesn’t let dirt, bacteria, and mineral contamination accumulate until you need to lift it to reach and stop the toilet from working by hand or assess parts for certain repairs or other measures. These dire conditions can also cause the metal parts of the toilet bowl to corrode and lead to stains on dishes – the first hint of the problem for most homeowners.

By cleaning your toilet regularly – at least twice a year – you can prolong the life of your toilet and all its parts, clean your bathroom odors and save elbow grease.Disinfect your toilets. Everyone wins! What are you waiting for? Do a quick job and stay fresh with this guide on how to clean the toilet.

  • STEP 1
  • First, empty the water from the tank. To do this, locate the water valve (the “tap” valve on the wall behind or near the toilet seat) and close it. Then lift the tank lid to see the water level inside and flush the toilet until the water is completely used up. Depending on your flow, this may require two or three flushes.
  • 2ND STEP
  • Assess the condition of your tank. If you only consider stains and surface dirt, this is a simple cleaning job that will reduce the friction a bit. Go to step 3. However, if you see mineral deposits and scale building up on the bottom of the tank and the walls are discolored, choose a stronger method: vinegar. This
  • All-Natural All-Stars
  • is an excellent barrier against mildew, hard water deposits and more. You will need enough vinegar to fill the tank up to the overflow valve, which means up to 3 gallons depending on the size of your tank. (Luckily, at around $3 a gallon, it’s not as expensive as you might think!) Pour in vinegar and let sit for 12 hours without dripping. When you’re ready to clean, drain the vinegar. Again, this process may take two or three flushes.
  • STEP 3
  • Wearing rubber gloves, thoroughly spray the inside of the tank—along the walls and bottom—with your favorite disinfectant cleaner. Do your best to keep the nozzle away from metal parts, in case corrosive additives might react with the metal. (Bleach, for example, is very corrosive.) Check the label for the manufacturer’s recommended shelf life. Typically, you’ll let the sanitizer soak in for 10-15 minutes.
  • STEP 4
  • Get yourself a scrub brush! Some practices recommend using a toilet brush to clean the inside of the toilet bowl, but considering the cleaning work they regularly do, we recommend using a new brush. (This way you won’t accidentally introduce other dirt from previous dirty jobs into the tank.) It should be a long, narrow scrub brush with medium to stiff bristles and a shape that allows you to scrub corners and bottom of tank. After time is up, scrub thoroughly – in corners, around furniture, everywhere underneath – to remove any dirt and/or buildup. Apply additional detergent if necessary.
  • STEP 5 (optional)
  • When you open the lid, ask yourself if your toilet needs maintenance. If your toilet is not performing well, now is a good time to replace any parts that might need replacing, such as the flush.
  • STEP 6
  • Clean all working parts in the tank. Instead of spraying them directly and
  • pickled wine
  • first dilute the metal parts with a detergent which may or may not be corrosive. Simply dip
  • A sponge
  • with clean, lukewarm water and spray a little detergent on the sponge. Next, clean floats, cushions, and other working toilets with diluted disinfectant. Rinse and re-soak the sponge if necessary.
  • STEP 7
  • Turn the water back on and allow the tank to fill. Drain it several times. Does the tank look clean enough? If not, rinse the tank again as you did in step 1, then repeat steps 3 to 6. !

KEEP CLEAN CLEAN

Arrivalkeep life simplerGoing forward, here are some steps to keep the tank in a cleaner condition day after day.

  • Consider placing toilet bowl shelves in the toilet bowl. These can keep mold, minerals and contaminants to a minimum. Be careful not to buy tablets containing bleach, as it is known to be corrosive to metals. Do your homework and read online reviews carefully before buying one. Arrival
  • Reduce the use of chemicals in the home
  • and the risk of damage, remember that tablets marketed as “natural” or “chemical-free” may be best suited for the task.
  • If you are not using the tablet, flush the toilet and pour vinegar (as in step 2) more often. Vinegar kills mold and dissolves mineral buildup before it becomes a problem. Just leave it there overnight and wash it off the next morning.
  • You may have heard of a monthly cleaning regiment for toilet cisterns, but we think twice a year will suffice for smaller households with more than one shared toilet for the whole family. . However, the situation determines the need for maintenance. If you have
  • hard water
  • , mineral deposits can accumulate faster. If the toilet is located in a high-traffic area, whether it’s a crowded home or your workplace, the more it’s used, the more frequent cleaning it will also require. Lift the tank lid for a bi-weekly check, then you’ll know what kind of cleaning cycle your toilet might need. Track your inspection and cleaning on a schedule so you stay on top of everything.
