How many skirts do you need??

To order new plinths, you will need to measure and calculate the circumference of your mobile home and the average height between the ground and the bottom of your home. Anyway, the first step is the circumference.

Measure circumferenceyour mobile home

Measuring the perimeter of your home is easy. You simply measure the lengths of the 4 sides of your house and add it all up. Don’t forget to include the floor or porch which needs to be plinth. Remember, however, that you’ve already included the width of the ports, so just add the length (2 sides) to your total.

Tip: Don’t multiply the width by the length, this will give you the square footage of the house. We need peripheral images.

how to measure for mobile home skirting

Calculate average size

To find out the average height of a mobile home, you will need to take 6 measurements: at the 4 corners and between the front and back of your mobile home.

After measuring in all 6 positions, you will need to add all your measurements together and divide by 6. This total will be your average height.

Popular baseboard options for mobile homes

There are several different types of materials that can be used for moho baseboards. Brick, mortar, tin (metal), cinder block, T1011, plywood, hardboard, imitation stone and vinyl are just a few. You can use any material, but the following are the most common.

Advanced Text Blocks

Qubely blocks are added to the Gutenberg editor right after installing the plugin. You can start using it like any other Gutenberg block. Add ready blocks using the plus sign, where you will find a new block section under the Qubely icon.

Vinyl baseboard

The most popular choice for mobile home baseboards

Vinyl baseboard is the most popular choice for mobile home owners for a number of reasons: ease of installation, affordability, and appeal.

Plus, vinyl is eco-friendly and one of the most durable materials in the world. Vinyl is made from common salt and ethylene from natural gas.

According to Building for the Environment and Sustainable Economy (BEES) software, vinyl siding outperforms brick, mortar and wood in its impact on the environment based on a combination of environmental criteria.

Advantages and disadvantages of vinyl siding

Unfortunately, the vinyl siding of many affordable home designs is not of the highest quality. It is usually a thin, weak product made from old recycled vinyl building blocks. This vinyl is not as energy efficient as other vinyls, specially insulating vinyl. If you have this thinner vinyl, you should consider upgrading as soon as possible.

Vinyl baseboards are not good forherbivoreand popular brands don’t age well.

Cost

Most vinyl baseboard kits cost around $600 or more for a common size and will include all the pieces you need to complete an entire home.

Buy a complete set of vinyl skirting boards

There are 4 basic parts needed for vinyl baseboards: the plate, the U-channel floor track, the top J-channel, and the trim.

12 foot plates

The panel itself is usually sold in 12 foot lengths. This makes it easy for houses to lay on their side, you just need to cut the panels to the exact size you need for the area. You can start with 2 on one side and end with 12 on the other. You will need to use the average height method to set the correct number of skirts.

Trail – Canal U.

The above-ground rails are fixed to the ground by long bars. It’s a U-shaped channel and the panel will fit over it and hold it secure.

Senior Manager – J. Canal

The back top is the lower part of the house before the panels were put in place. It has an upper J-channel into which the upper front part will fit.

Garnish

The top front is the horizontal strip at the front of the panel. It gives the whole system a more polished look and allows for a safer baseboard. This is the last part you add. There are v-guards you can add around the bottom edge of the thinner bezel to prevent weeds from eating it.

Novik and the Brick Board

Noviks are a favorite of mobile home owners because they come in so many styles. It may be expensive, but it could still be the right choice for your home. This baseboard requires a metal frame and some brands require professional installation to honor their warranties.

Most faux panels are made from polyurethane and come in 46 ¼” × 24 inch high × 1 ¼” panels. They look like real stones. You can frame the clad area with 2×2 or 2×4 metal, then screw the panels into the frame. You can also completely frame the area with plywood and screw it down for a more secure installation. They are light but robust and resist temperature variations very well.

They are a bit more expensive but less expensive than real stone and much easier to install.MHPS has a 48″ x 18 1/2″ Novik panel for $21.98.Corner pieces are about $15 each. See installation steps forNovik here.

faux rock vinyl skirtingReil rock slabs.

Rock of Reil

The second most popular baseboard choice is Reil Rock (aka Mason’s Rock) panels. They are made of sturdy plastic, look like stone and are available in 3 colors.

Reil Rock is available in 5ft sections with 3 rise options: 2’6″, 3′ and 4′.

The sturdier construction of Riel tiles makes them fairly easy to install and is similar to installing vinyl baseboard with a U-channel (or J-channel).

There is a track you can put on the panel, but it is not necessary. If your panel is only a few centimeters long, you can use the top notch to solve the problem.

A 5 foot stretchcosts about $32 at MHPS. Although more expensive than vinyl, it is stiffer and can hold up a bit more.

To calculate Reil Rock, simply convert your linear feet to inches by dividing by 12. Then use your average height calculation to get the correct panel height to purchase. There is a lip on these boards that is approximately 2-3″, so keep that in mind. If your mobile home is overhead, you may want to opt for a baseboard that has the lip. looks more cohesive – those seams are very noticeable (at least to me)

Concrete blocks, bricks and bricks

If you want absolute eternity, then concrete, brick, or cinder block is probably your best bet.

Adding bricks or cinder blocks to a home is a laborious challenge, but the benefits are worth it. The fact that it is indestructible is the best advantage.

Concrete slabs are easier to install but have the same durability and longevity as bricks and cinder blocks. There are companies that specialize in concrete paving, but you can also buy precast concrete slabs.

These nearly indestructible baseboard materials will almost certainly increase the value of your home. “Homes that are well-maintained and have smart upgrades like baseboards and insulation often sell for more,” commented Ruban Selvanayagam ofBritish property company Property Solvers.

There is a bit of a misunderstanding around brick and masonry as well as “permanent foundations” for mobile homes and builders.

FHA loans require all manufactured homes to be permanently installed, but permanent installation involves more than just baseboard materials.
A manufactured home can be permanently installed and has vinyl baseboards.

Metal plinth

I’ve always liked the look of a simple metal dress under a mobile home. There are several different types of metal that can be used for mobile home baseboards, but pewter is generally the most affordable.

If you opt for metal baseboards, you may want to consider installing insulation at the same time. Metal has many great qualities but lacks the insulating benefits.

Simple installation is an added advantage. The metal itself is very sturdy, so a simple 2″x4″ frame would do (make sure to keep the wood off the ground).

You can simply attach the top of the panel to your house and just let the bottom of the metal panel rest in a groove in the floor.

Nowadays, movable baseboard designs made of metal are also becoming more attractive. The old dash or big brick pattern is the most common design style, but with a little research you can find new ones.

Metal baseboards for mobile homes have two great qualities: they can be painted any color you want and they can resist weeds.

Prices for metal baseboards are around $10-15 for each slab 5 feet long.

Basement foam insulation

Mobile home insulated baseboards have been getting a lot of attention lately, but it may not be the best place to spend your money. NREL tested energy-saving techniques for mobile homes and found that the installation of new pads of mobile home insulation increased by 7% while the blowing of underfloor insulation increased by 11%. Adding wall insulation increases the best performance to 13%.

Therefore, you might be better off spending your money on insulating the floor, not the baseboards.

Styrofoam can be used with a frame, but some brands won’t need a frame.

The price of panels is around $10-15 per foot.

Installation kits depend on the linear spindles required.

Plywood, OSB and baseboard T-111

Wood has always been a well-known building material. Using wood for baseboards is not the best option unless it is treated and your property is not too damp. The wood is susceptible to rot and insects and absorbs water quickly.

Hardiboard and OSB are strong. OSB is cut with the seed of the tree and is designed to make a very strong product.

Wooden products that are not waterproof will swell due to moisture. The price depends on what you have chosen and the installation can be simple or complex. Some people suggest using a sealer and sealing the ends of the boards before laying them down as an extra precaution against moisture. You can also use boards and get the shape of the partition. Lots of potential with wood!

Other plinth options

The sky is the limit when it comes to baseboard materials for mobile homes. Of course, the materials listed above are probably the best way to save money when you think about it. Maybe you could reuse materials or keep construction waste out of the landfill. For example, a weathered metal shingle can become a beautiful access plate for your baseboard.

The old tin barn has stood the test of time and it is beautiful. One of our featured homes features antiquestin box for plinth, and it’s beautiful! Rail and straw ties are two unique mobile home partition options we have seen.

Really, you can use anything that’s weatherproof and durable. Keep fire resistance in mind before deciding to use a single material.

Whatever the material,Ventilation is vital

No matter which movable baseboard material you choose, they all require a properly placed ventilation system to control the airflow in your home.

Aeration rate

Vents in mobile homes are so important that many states regulate them. Most experts agree that you need about 1 foot of ventilation for every 150 to 250 square feet in a mobile home.

Air station

You will want to be careful where you place the vents in your baseboard. You don’t want vents near water pipes. However, you want to have vents within 3′ of each corner. Air can circulate efficiently and you don’t get dead air pockets in the corners.

vapor barrier

The above ground vapor barrier is a thick sheet of plastic that sits on the ground under your mobile home. It does exactly what it says, creating a barrier that protects your home from above ground moisture.

If you have a healthy ground barrier, you can get away with fewer vents. John Krigger, author ofYour mobile home, wrote that you might only need one vent per 300 square feet if you have an above ground vapor barrier.

Smart Tip: Extending the vapor barrier about 6 inches around the perimeter of your home is a smart move for several reasons. You can use the floor support of the skirt (or the C-channel if you are installing vinyl) as the main material that can hold the vapor barrier to the floor. And, second, the above-ground vapor barrier helps keep weeds from growing near your home, which can certainly reduce the risk of damage to your beautiful new baseboard.

Inference

Mobile home baseboards are essential for a healthy home. In fact, it is mandatory in many parts of the country. New baseboards can completely change the look of your home and save you heating and cooling costs for years.
