Multi-read content how to organize a corner cabinet

One of the hardest parts of moving into a new home is dealing with unique storage situations, especially in the kitchen! Each time there is a new parameter for us that we must understand. Our current kitchen is full of puzzles, and I’ve solved a few of them:food storage without pantry, maximize drawer depth,a large drawer, andcupboard above refrigerator. Today I am going to tackle another pain point and share how to organize corner kitchen cabinets. I show you what we do in our own cabinets and explain how you can apply the same concepts to your own kitchen!

How to Organize Corner Kitchen Cabinets

Corner cabinets are found in many kitchens with L- or U-shaped layouts. Instead of using square cabinets, which often create empty or hard-to-reach compartments, 90-degree cabinets are installed to maximize the use of cabinet space.

Usually corner cabinets have an L-shaped design with seated shelvesin the corner. Sometimes they will have a turntable instead of a shelf, which really helps increase usable space and makes it easier to get things in and out.

Our corner kitchen cabinets come with L-shaped shelves (top) and turntables (bottom). As I show you exactly how we arrange the two corner cabinets, you’ll notice a consistent theme:circle. Let me show you what I mean!

How to organize L-shaped corner cabinets

When you have L-shaped shelves in a corner of your kitchen (or anywhere else, really!), the best way to use space is to use space.Ringitems: bowls, cake dishes, small appliances, turntables, lazy trays, round baskets, … Rounded items are better suited to corner arrangements and are still easy to carry. Additionally, one corner will be deeper than an adjacent shelf, making it the perfect location for anything that won’t fit in a standard depth shelf.

How to Organize Corner Kitchen Cabinets

UsingRingandcan be rotatedYou can still take advantage of the corner depth to keep items compact and easy to reach. It’s a great choice for spices, oils, measuring spoons/cups, smoothies, pills and other essentials.

How to arrange corner cabinets with turntables

Most lower corner kitchen cabinets come with tiered hangers for several reasons. First theyRingthe shape makes the most of the deep recess between the cabinet door and the corner/wall. Second, the swivel feature makes it easy to access anything in the cabinet without having to reach the back!

Based on our needs, we chose to store pots and pans on the turntable in our lower kitchen cabinet. But I want you to pay attention to how to store the jars:The pot is turned outwards, the handle is inwards.

How to Organize Corner Kitchen Cabinets

The best way to use all the space on the turntable is with pie-shaped objects; and if you look closely, our potted layout mimics cake slices. With the pots facing out and the handles facing in, I was able to fit the objects around the perimeter the best. This arrangement also prevents the handle from getting stuck along the sides as it rotates (and thus gets stuck). I deliberately moved the bottom shelf horizontally so you can see they take up more space and the handles can be easily grabbed from the side of the cabinet.

If you need to store your pantry items or other small essentials in a large corner cabinet equipped with a turntable, the cake baskets and containers pictured below are the best choice for creating and maintaining order. If we weren’t using corner cabinets for pots and pans these are absolutely what I would be using for cereals, canned goods, snacks, condiments, medicine, measuring cups/spoons, cookie cutters, etc. ! Again, always make sure to measureyour specific cabinetto determine which product will be a perfect fit!

If your corner unit doesn’t already have a turntable, here are some options that might work!

Organizing corner kitchen cabinets can be a bit tricky. But choosing the rightshapeitems for these cabinets, you can really maximize their look and function. Round items work best on L-shaped shelves, while cake-shaped items are ideal for turntables. If you’re struggling to create more order in your corner cabinets, I hope you try some of these ideas!
