how to start a power washer

Although the basic procedure for starting anew electric washing machineare the same on most models, you should check the manufacturer’s instructions. The starting process for gas pressure washers and electric car washes is slightly different.

Make sure your washing machine is turned off until you are ready to use it.

How to start an electric pressure washer?

Here is the checklist for starting your electric pressure washer.

  • Make sure the water filter is clean and free of dirt.
  • Connect the water inlet hose to the faucet and the other end to the pressure washer.
  • Connect the uncoiled high pressure hose to the water pressure pump. Attach the other end to the gun assembly.
  • Select the nozzle you want to use.
  • Pull the collar on the end of the gun and attach the nozzle. Hold the nozzle firmly by releasing the collar.
  • Remove excess air from the pressure washer system before starting the engine. Open the tap and let the water flow through the air renewal system by squeezing the gun.
  • Plug the power plug into a grounded outlet.
  • Turn the engine switch to the “On” position and start using the pressure washer.

When you are done, say, clean your gutters with your washing machine, switch off the electric pressure washer and remove the plug from the socket. Relieve the pressure by squeezing the gun after turning off the pressure washer. Close the tap and disconnect the water supply and the high pressure hose. Drain excess water and remove nozzle.

How to start the air pressure washer

  • Make sure the water filter is clean.
  • Open and connect the two pipes. Connect the garden hose to the faucet and pressure pump.
  • High pressure hose connecting the gun and the water pump.
  • Most models have a clamp connection on the spray gun that is pulled back to connect and then snap back into place. Connect the high pressure hose to the back of the spray gun and the nozzle to the front connector of the spray gun lance neck.
  • Open the water. Squeeze the trigger to expel air from the system when it is full of water.

Gasoline engines require extra steps that are unnecessary with electric washing machines.

  • Check the fuel level. Fill the fuel tank with gasoline according to the manufacturer’s recommendations. The gasoline car wash has a 4-stroke engine and does not require fuel oil mixture.
  • Check the oil level. Make sure the fuel valve is in the “Closed” or “Off” position. Remove the dipstick. Wipe clean and reassemble but do not reassemble. Make sure the oil level is slightly above the indicated line. Change the oil if it is dark oil. The oil should be yellow/yellow.
  • Turn the fuel valve to the “Open” or “On” position.
  • Move the inductor to the “Open” position. In many models it is located on the left side.
  • Move the throttle to the “Full Throttle” or “Max” position (or to the left).
  • “Turn on” the engine.
  • Release the pressure by squeezing the trigger while holding the gun firmly with one hand. Simultaneously use the other hand to pull the starter latch on the engine.
  • Let the engine run for a few seconds to warm up.
  • Move the inductor to the “Close” or “On” position and start using the pressure washer.

After using the pressure washer, turn off the engine. Release the pressure in the system by pulling the trigger. Close the faucet and remove all hoses and fittings. Drain the remaining water from the system.

Safety Tip: Always check hoses for leaks and repair if necessary before starting the pressure washer engine.

Why is my gas pressure washer not starting?

How do you prime a pressure washer?

How does a gas powered pressure washer work?

A typical pressure washer has either a gas-fueled engine or electrical powered motor that powers a water pump. The pump accelerates the water, supplied from a garden hose, to produce high pressure. The washer is hooked to a high pressure-rated hose.

How do you start a Honda pressure washer?

How do you turn a pressure washer into a hose?

In general, you can turn your hose into a sort of pressure washer using a hose extension. If the pressure of your main water supply is good enough, it will give a significant increase in output pressure. You can expect a pressure of up to 250 PSI from the 30 to 40 PSI water supply.

How do you purge a pressure washer?

To bleed the pump of any air, turn the machine off and disconnect the high pressure hose and trigger gun from your power washer. With only the garden hose connected to the machine, turn on your water source and allow water to run through the pump of the machine for 20 or 30 seconds.

Why is pressure washer not working?

If your pressure washer starts and runs fine, but there’s no pressure or no water coming from the pump, it could be a clogged wand, hose or inlet filter. Begin isolating the problem by hooking a water hose to the washer’s inlet and turning it on. If water flows out the outlet, you know water is cycling through.

Can you flood a pressure washer?

Flooded pressure washer engine

Flooding will not allow your engine to ignite. It happens when the mixture of air and fuel exceeds the upper explosive limit of the engine of your pressure washer.

How long can you run a pressure washer without water?

Without water, even for only a few seconds, your pump will be working harder than it should be. The pumps job is to take in water from the supply hose and push it out through the nozzle. The pump is designed to operate with water flowing through it. The water helps to lubricate the pump and help to keep it cool.

Today, we’re going to teach you how to properly setup and start your pressure washer. We’ll be demonstrating this on a Generac consumer-grade pressure washer, but this should work for most standard pressure washers. The first step is to connect the garden hose and the high pressure hose to the pump. You never want to start a pressure washer without the water running through the pump, so make sure that you have the water turned on after connecting it. If you run it without water, you run the risk of burning up your seals or cracking a piston. Next, you need to provide your engine with gas by flipping the gas release switch to the ON position. Now, you’ll want to turn the throttle up to rabbit speed and not turtle speed, sliding the switch away from you is how you turn the throttle up on most models. After that, you’ll want to prime your washer by flipping the choke switch to the ON position for the initial start. Now, before starting the engine, you’ll want to purge your pump and hoses of all air by holding the trigger down on the gun until all the air is expelled and only water runs out of it. After all the air is expelled, flip the red switch to the ON position, then give the recoil a pull. If it doesn’t start on the first try, don’t be discouraged. It sometimes takes two or three. After you have your washer started, flip the choke switch back to the OFF position in order to get your engine idling properly. Now, with your washer running, the real fun begins!

Pressure washer not starting? Feel like you’re missing an important step? We’ve got you covered as we go through each step in detail, from connecting the water to pulling the recoil and everything in between. We also go over some general maintenance tips that will allow you to maximize the performance and lifespan of your pressure washer.

The following is a written list of each step. Each of these will need to be completed every time you want to use your pressure washer:

1. Connect the garden hose to the pressure washer pump (inlet).

2. Connect the high-pressure hose to the gun (outlet).

3. Attach the desired quick-connect spray nozzle to the end of the gun via the quick-connect coupler. Squeeze the trigger to ensure water is flowing.

4. Check the fuel level and fill with unleaded, low ethanol fuel if necessary. The use of fuel stabilizer is always recommended to prevent gummy build-up and corrosion.

5. Remove the dipstick from the engine and wipe it off using a towel. Insert the stick once more and remove it, wiping it on a piece of white paper towel. This will allow you to gauge the level and quality of your oil. If low or in poor condition, you will need to change it. If unsure of how to do this, consult our support section on our website.

6. Turn the On/Off Switch to the “On” position.

7. Ensure the throttle is fully engaged. It should never be lower than this, as all of our washers are tested and operated at this level. Lowering the throttle puts extra stress on the engine, which can reduce the lifespan and performance.

8. Switch the fuel valve on to allow the flow of gas to the engine and engage the choke lever. (Note: The throttle, choke, and fuel valve are all located by the air filter on your pressure washer).

9. Turn your water supply on if this hasn’t been done yet.

10. Once all of this is done, pull the recoil starter briskly until the engine starts to run. This should typically take only one or two pulls.

11. With the pressure washer running, pull the trigger on the spray gun to release any built-up pressure. This will help extend the life and performance quality of your pump.

If your pressure washer still isn’t starting after following these steps, or if you can’t pull the recoil, feel free to consult our other support videos, visit the support section of our website, or call our technical support line. We’re always happy to help!

If you found this helpful, feel free to give us a like and subscribe to our channel! We’ll have a number of videos for technical support, general maintenance, product line-ups, and much more in the future.
