When should I replace the prefilters for my air purifier?
All three Honeywell HPA models feature a ‘Check Filter’ and ‘Check Pre-Filter’ light that will tell you exactly when it’s time for a filter replacement. It’s going to sound obvious, but when your prefilter is doused in dust and grime, you’re going to want to replace the prefilter asap. Honeywell HEPA Filters are naturally white. When they’ve become any other color (grey, black), that’s usually a sign that it’s time for a replacement. It’s generally recommended to change a Honeywell Prefilter once every three months and Honeywell HEPA Filters once every year.
Can I wash or vacuum my HEPA Filters and use them again?
It seems like an easy fix, but you really don’t want to do this. Doing so can really limit the filter’s effectiveness by damaging its exterior. It’s best to just play it safe and replace the filter for the unit.
How do I remove the filters from my HPA100, HPA200 or HPA300 Air Purifier?
You’re going to want to start by flipping the power off to your unit. You can then remove the grille (press in the top corners). You’ll hear click when the grille is released. Remove the prefilter and then the HEPA filters. The HEPA Filters will feature a tab that you can pull to remove them easier.
Why can’t I just use any filter for my air purifier? Is there really a difference?
Yes! Honeywell prefilters and HEPA Filters were designed specifically for Honeywell Air Purifiers. Using another brand of filters will be limiting the effectiveness of your unit. Compatible does not mean comparable. The Honeywell Store only sells Genuine Honeywell Filters for the HPA Series of and a host of other air purifiers. You can find the selection here:
Genuine Honeywell Air Purifier Prefilters and HEPA Filters
You’re going to want to start with your HEPA filters. If you flip your filter to its side, you’ll see that there’s an arrow pointing. This arrow indicates which direction the filter should be placed (when you do put these in, be sure that the tabs are facing outwards and not pressed under the filter). You can put your carbon prefilter in. When you put this in, you’re going to want to make sure it’s over the tabs of the HEPA filters in place. You can now reach for the grille for your air purifier. Line it up correctly, lock it into place and you’ll be set.
How do I reset the check filter light?
Once you’ve replaced the filters, simply press and hold the ‘Check Filter’ and ‘Check Prefilter’ for three to five seconds and then release when the light turns off.
