Multi-read content what is a cantilever mount

With all the different rifle glass holders, rings and rails it can be confusing to keep them straight and what the difference is. Finally, we think of rifles, firepower, optics and other accessories.

However, a more important part for your performance that you might not think about is the scope rack, and there really are plenty of options even for those. The performance of your rifle and scope is entirely dependent on the right mount.

That said, what is a gun mount? Let’s find out, so the next time you come across one, you’ll know exactly what it is, how it works, the pros and cons, and if it’s an option you want for your password, his gun or not.

what is a cantilever mount

Mounts, rings and rails

To mount your scope, I’ve heard the terms mount, ring, and spoke used interchangeably many times, but there is a difference. The rail is the support your “rig” is attached to. Generally you will have a base that is a Weaver, Picatinny, Dovetail or a combination.

Rings and mounts are essentially the same thing, but mounts are one piece and rings are two pieces. The bracket and ring will attach to your base rail, which can also be one or two piece.

Base

There are three main types of bases: Weaver, Picatinny and Dovetail. Weaver is one of the most popular establishments. It is a flat rail with intersecting grooves which helps to prevent/shift due to jolts. It is 7/8 inches wide and only accepts Weaver style rings. The cool thing about Weaver rings is that they can be easily removed and reattached to the base without having to remove the bezel. Weaver and Picatinny are very similar.

Picatinny mounts are the most versatile as they can be adjusted to a variety of scope lengths, accommodate both right and left receivers, and can accept both Picatinny and Weaver mounts. They are also available in one-piece or two-piece bases and are easy to install with factory pre-drilled holes and screws. This mount can accommodate a variety of accessories other than the scope, and on some tactical rifles it can be mounted in different positions on the gun.

The dovetail base is one of the oldest base systems and is very strong. They are generally heavier than other style insoles and are much sturdier. The dovetail sole has an oval hole in the center, and the buckles have “tail” pins that fit into this hole, which are then twisted and locked.

One piece or two pieces

One-piece mounts are generally stronger and stiffer, providing more support and stability for your scope. The rings are self-aligned, so you won’t necessarily have as many adjustment issues as with the two-piece ring style. They are slightly larger and are a great option for a tactical rifle.

The disadvantage of the one-piece mount is that it is heavier and can interfere with the receiver on bolt-action rifles. This can make it more difficult to clear fires and malfunctions and load ammunition directly into the chamber. Attention should also be paid to the alignment of the drilled holes for the optical tube. If the holes are misaligned, it can cause mounting issues and other range and setback factor issues.

Two-piece rings are lighter and allow more space between the scope body and receiver for faster clearing of blockages. They are often a better choice for hunters for this reason. They are generally more common and affordable and offer slightly less support for your weapon. They should be properly aligned, but they are easy to align. Another advantage is that they are often easily interchangeable between rifles, unlike the one-piece.

Cantilever

The word cantilever is defined as a long beam or a beam that is only fixed at one end, so you can guess what the cantilever is when it is aligned with the others, as it protrudes forward at one end.

Cantilever brackets can be one-piece brackets or two-piece rings. In both models, the mount pushes the scope forward and allows more space on the rail behind the lens. This is great if you want to attach something else to it, like a magnifying glass. Plus, such a forward visual push will give you better eye relief and a wider field of vision to work with.

Instead of sitting on the receiver, a cantilever mount will sit a little more on the barrel. This can change the balance or weight of the rifle and make it heavier forward so keep this in mind when combining with the scope as some scopes can be quite heavy. They also add height to your scope, which can be a plus or a minus depending on how you shoot your rifle.

As with other attachments and accessories for your gun, even a cantilever lens mount comes with a variety of options and features to suit your fancy. If forward tactical projection isn’t enough, you can also get these quick-release, clear mounts for easy co-witnesses, extra rails to mount things to your hoop, like a green light, or a combination of those. -this.

An example of cantilever shelving with all of these options would beMizugiwa Quick Release Bracket.

Inference

You are now familiar enough to know what a cantilever is to be able to identify it, its pros and cons, and some of the different characteristics. With this knowledge you will be able to make a better decision as to whether this is the type of mount you want or need on your rifle. Whichever you choose, choose one to improve your photography and make your life easier!

Do I need a cantilever mount?

Firstly, the fact that the cantilever mount pushes the optics a bit forward not only offers a better eye relief and field of view, but also clears a bit of space on the rail in the back of the rifle, making it possible to mount something else in that spot, for example, magnifiers or folding back-up sights, and so on.

What height rings for AR15?

The ideal range is 0.625” – 0.25” (Again, not relevant of you have an adjustable cheek piece or a flattop rifle such as Ruger RPR, AR15, or AR10). If you are trying to keep the scope low while using a 20, 30, or 40 MOA scope rail/base, you will need extra clearance.

Where should a scope be mounted on an AR?

With the AR 15 placed level in the shooting rest, take the scope mount and put it on top of the upper receiver. Avoid placing the mount on both the free-floating rail and upper receiver. By doing, this, it can cause unwanted stress on the tube.

What is scope offset?

If you have an optic on a firearm, particularly a rifle, the line-of-sight through the scope is higher than the center of the bore, and that difference is what we call offset. In other words, when you take a shot the bullet is going to exit the barrel as much as several inches lower than the line of sight.

Are Monstrum handguards good?

5.0 out of 5 starsGreat rail better service. Good quality solid rail. My only concern was that other keymod rails I researched had have a notch on the attachment side to hold the rail in place along with the screws. I contacted Monstrum and they assured me the rail would be secure.

Are Athlon scopes any good?

The scope is as big and heavy as you’d expect, considering the specs. (30mm tube, 24×50) However, the first focal plane (FFP) reticle zooms with the optics, so the mil dots stay accurate. For any kind of rested shooting, this scope is great. The only time it’s not is when you want to hunt with a lower zoom setting.

Whats the difference between first and second focal plane?

Therein lies the key difference: Since a First Focal Plane scope has the reticle in front of the erector system, it will shrink or grow as the magnification changes. As a Second Focal Plane scope keeps the reticle behind the erector system, the reticle will not change in size no matter what you do.
