Mulching Information

Mulchor notcoatingThat’s the question ! Most gardeners will ask themselves this question at the start of each UK gardening season.

mulch the grass

Mulching consists of recycling patches of grass by mowing and finely cutting the grass. These recycled grass clippings are called ‘coating’Will protect the grass underneath and in doing so retain soil moisture, prevent weed growth and keep soil temperature even. As a result, the lawn is healthier and greener. Grass mulch improves soil texture and content, reducing disease and mold, resulting in a greener, healthier lawn.

Just a quick note: It’s best to remove debris from your lawn at the start and end of the growing season when decomposition is slow.

Why Mulch?

Straw mulching, which is not always clearly explained, also saves time as there is no longer a stop to clean the grass catcher – no more packing cuttings and delivering them to the point where there are unsightly piles of rotten grass lying around you. the garden too.

When to mulch

Mulching is best in spring and summer; After you mow the lawn, leave a layer of mulch on the lawn. No matter what anyone tells you, rags and mulch on your lawn aren’t the same thing – and no, crumbs don’t cause that stain. Mulch, that part of grass clippings, is about 90% water, so they start to break down almost immediately after hitting the ground. By staying in place, the branches return nutrients to the soil. As they break down, they release up to 30% of essential lawn nutrients. As grass clippings decompose, they return valuable nitrogen and other nutrients to the soil.

Things to think about

The size of your lawn is always one of the main deciding factors, as trying to use a larger machine than necessary for smaller areas can be more of a hindrance than a help, as they can be quite bulky and heavy. A general rule is shown in the table below.

lawn size cutting width
Less than 1/2 tennis court 40cm – 45cm (16 – 18 )
Up to 2 tennis courts 50cm – 55cm (20 – 22 )
2-4 tennis courts 52cm with more power (21 )
More than 4 tennis courts Consider a ride on a lawnmower or lawn tractor

So when it comes to lawn mowers and you are looking to buy a new lawn mower, don’t overlook the mulch option. Ask yourself the right questions first, because it would be a shame not to give your lawn a well-deserved boost of nutrition on which it depends so badly in the middle of the season.

Coated lawn mower

New wave ofcoating cutterCurrently collectible which is a great all-around feature due to the UK climate not being ideal for mulching all year round due to the amount of rainfall we receive across the UK. a system that recycles cuttings as you cut.Lawn mowerCut the grass into fine particles then push these particles down the lawn out of sight. No grass bags or collectors to throw away – no trips to the compost pile or clue. The result is a perfect lawn finish 30% faster.

The bestmulching lawn mowerbuying that suits your needs is always a minefield as there are so many products on the UK market right now; Honda, Hayter and Mountfield are brands worth mentioning.
