Here are the reasonswhy you should use VPN all the time.

Personally I use and recommend one of themPureVPN,IPVanishorExpressVPN. These are the fastest and most secure VPNs in the industry.

theNational Electrical Code (NEC)andCanadian Electrical Code (CEC)requires that all TV antenna installations be grounded. These are country codes, so be sure to check with your local state or province for any area type codes that must be followed for your particular location.

Before we begin, let’s look at a few different concepts that are important when we say we’re going to “build” something or “link” something. In particular, let’s look at grounding and why we grind metal objects. Let’s also look at gluing and what it means to glue metal objects. These two concepts fulfill two different and often confused roles.

What does it mean to “anchor” something?

Grounding and bonding is perhaps the least understood and least implemented part of the electrical system. Before we learn what grounding is and how to properly ground a TV antenna, let’s debunk the following two myths right away:

Fiction

Electricity is trying to reach the ground… WRONG! Electricity tries to return to the source that generated it, and it will use the earth as a PATH if necessary.

Fiction

Electricity passes through the path of least resistance… FALSE!!! Electricity follows all available paths in proportion to resistance and the source generating it.

“Grounding Metal Parts”of electrical equipment is the intended connection of the equipment to ground. If metal parts are not properly grounded, high voltage may be applied to metal parts in the event of a lightning strike.

“Having an effective base”if metallic objects are intentionally connected to ground through a low impedance (resistance) path.

“Ground the system”coming to earth is for lightning andThe Surge line.problem. It will beNEVERhelp unclog circuit breakers or fuses in your current home.

What does it mean to “bind” something?

“Bond, stuck or glued”designates the permanent association of metallic parts to form an electrical path which makes it possible to conduct in complete safety any current likely to be applied to it.

The important thing to understand about bonding is that proper bonding of your TV antenna, mounting pole and/or conduit provides a low resistance path to ground throughequipment ground wirein the event of a lightning strike. There is nothing like thisWAYlightning will find another path to earth, which could be via your antenna cable and/or even worse, your HOME!

It is therefore extremely important that all metal parts of your TV antenna hardware are glued together and that a ground conductor (wire) is installed to connect the TV antenna to your ground rod or ground plate.

How to Properly Ground a TV Antenna

NEC requires that the antenna mast be directly grounded. If you look at the image below you will want to use#6 AWGground wire for all your ground runs and adjustmentearth clamp. Below is an image from the NEC code book that shows how to properly ground the TV antenna. Depending on your location, this may vary slightly, however, the basic settings are mostly unchanged.

While grounding your TV aerial shouldn’t be a difficult task, it certainly won’t cost you too much and might even give you a little extra care, thanks to an expert. Licensed installers do the installation or, at the very least, verify your installation meets the codes that apply to your area.

Either way, I think this image will serve as a very useful tool to help visualize the basic connections needed to properly ground an outdoor TV antenna.

How To Properly Ground A TV Antenna

Step

Determine where you will mount your antenna- Mount your TV antenna in a position that can provide you with good structural support. Whichever position you choose, be sure to consider the orientation of your transmission towers in order to have the clearest line of sight possible.

Mount your antenna securely- using the mounting hardware provided, mount your TV antenna on the patio or side of your house as shown in the picture above. Be sure to follow all installation instructions that came with your antenna for a safe and secure installation. Attention, if you install on your terrace, make sure to use roofing glue to cover the screws to avoid any possibility of water passage.

Step

If you go down to the basement and locate the electrical panel, you will see a solid copper wire running from the electrical panel through the wall to the outside. This wire will connect to the ground electrode (ground rod) or ground plate.

In the illustration above, represented by “Earth electrode system for power supply”. Locate the ground conductor for this system and attach a grounding clamp to it. Amazon has many different styles and varietiesearth clampAnd they are quite cheap. Clamp size is usually based on the size of wire you are clamping.

Depending on where you live and the size of your utility, your housing utility grounding conductor can be anywhere

I recommend you choose one#6 AWGground wire is available on Amazon. Using strong yarn is preferable to twine as twine can become brittle over time from contact with the elements.

Step

Use oneAntenna Mast Ground Clamp, run the other end of the ground wire you connected in step

Step

Now is the time to ground the coaxial cable from your TV antenna. The coaxial cable itself can accumulate static charge and to dissipate this charge properly you can use an antenna discharge block or ground block (again check your local code rules). ).

Again what kindCoaxial ground blockcan be found right there on Amazon and is pretty cheap. Although not shown in this image, I also recommend usingSurge Arresterrated to at least 1500 MHz to provide another layer of protection.

That’s it! Now you know how to properly ground the TV antenna!

A few tips before you leave.

  1. Antenna masts are painted, heavily rusted, or have some kind of coating on them, be sure to scrape where the metal parts meet to ensure a good bond. Once the hardware and antenna mount are securely connected, there is no problem with repainting afterwards.
  2. Secure the ground wire to the side of your house using a staple gun or other slip-screw type wire clip suitable for the job.
  3. Try to keep your ground wire as short as possible and avoid twisting or bending 90 degrees. If you must bend the ground wire, bend it slowly and as smoothly as possible. The reason for this is that lightning doesn’t like to turn corners and what you don’t want is a lightning strike that could discharge electricity into your home.

What if lightning strikes!

In the unlikely event that lightning strikes your TV antenna, even if you’ve done all the proper grounding, there’s no guarantee it won’t cause damage.

The simple truth is that when lightning strikes it will do whatever it is going to do and the best we can do is provide a low impedance (resistive) path to bring that energy back to earth just as quickly and safely. as possible. The good news is that lightning strikes are extremely rare!

If you’re still worried about damaging your equipment or TV in the event of a lightning strike, you can always unplug the coaxial cable from your devices knowing that a thunderstorm is approaching.
