Kitchen faucet repair: Loosen a stuck screw on a single-handle faucet

Single Handle Ball Faucet
If the Allen screw is stuck or you’re removing it so it won’t come loose, remove the cover with the handle still in place. You can’t get flat edges with a point grip. Instead, for this kitchen faucet solution, dab the jaws of the clamp and secure it to the rounded edge below.

How to remove the faucet handle

If you can’t loosen the Allen screw on the ball faucet handle, don’t let that 15¢ screw force you to replace the $100 faucet…don’t! Usually you have to remove the handle to remove the worn rubber seats that are causing the drip (Figure A). First, try spraying the screw with penetrating oil every day for a week. Then try the screw to see if it fits (Photo). If that fails or you end up removing the Allen screw head, try drilling out the screw. Use a bit of the same size as the screw and work carefully. You’ll damage the handle and have to replace it, but it’s worth it if you can save the valve. Finally, you can actually screw on the lid with the handle still connected (see figure A for parts). It’s difficult, because you can’t grab the flat edge of the cap, which is shaped for the clamp (Figure A). Ensure good jaw cushion when gripping the smooth, rounded body of the cap. Use a rubber band, as you cannot tighten the cap. Turn the cap counterclockwise to remove the screw. The assembly you remove will contain the handle, cap, cam, packing, and ball (Figure A).

The next challenge is to break the ball from its root. (Allen screws attach to the rod.) Try taking pliers and twisting them. The goal is to separate the parts so that you can reuse and reuse the cap. You will still need to buy a new grip and a repair kit that includes a new ball.

If this kitchen faucet fix isn’t working, the only solution is to replace the entire faucet. It is a difficult solution. Good luck!

Ball valves have these components. Repair kits will have critical parts to replace to prevent drops.

If you’ve got a leaky kitchen faucet that needs to be fixed, keep watching. Follow along with me and learn how to fix your own in just a few minutes. This repair is for faucets with only one handle and it’s really very easy to do! The tools needed are Allen wrenches, large adjustable wrench and some needle nose pliers.

Before we start, turn off both water valves under the sink and cover up the sink to prevent small parts from accidently dropping into the drain. plastic ring. With the handle removed, we can see the rubber seals that need to be replaced. When you’re done verything goes back in reverse order. Be careful not to squeeze the rubber seals too hard with your pliers. Because I laid everything out on the table, it was easy for me to put all the parts back together.

Once the faucet has been reassembled, turn on the water valves underneath the sink. Check to see that the faucet is running correctly. There may be some sputtering from the faucet after you start the water. Now when I turn off the faucet, the drip is gone!
