Multi-read content what is a board and batten wall

All are here! Do’s and Don’ts for a Professional Looking Whiteboard and Wall! Now I want one in every room of my house :). First of all, plank and batten simply means sticking strips of wood/mdf to your wall in a pattern or design! I love it because it’s an affordable way (only $150!) to add character to a space, add an accent, and elevate your space.

Now let’s all build a painting and a wall!

Here’s what you’ll need:

  • wood/mdf to the desired width for the slab
  • (if your wall is textured) backing board to make the wall smooth
  • nail
  • liquid nails
  • wood filler / sandpaper
  • putty painted

Optional: I used thisPaint sprayer $99it gives a smooth finish! I also usedthis coolest plastic duct tapeaccessory to facilitate the preparation of the paint.

Pin 1×2 fingers

Give meNext turn(only if you have textured walls and want a smooth look) I received a 4×8 sheet ofEucalyptusat Home Depot (see map photo below). It has a dark brown color and a super smooth side. You can also buy a thin sheet of plywood, but it’s the cheapest!

STEP 1:Before buying anything, you need to draw your wall and measure where all your pruning boards go. This is extremely important because in the end you will want the seams of your support board to be covered with trim pieces. A few things to consider when painting your walls:

  • Don’t forget a decorative piece on the left, right, top and bottom of the wall to frame the space, if you will.
  • Remember that the actual size of the actual 1x2in board is 3/4 x 1.5 inches, 1 x 3 is 3/4 x 2.5 inches….
  • Keep the distance between the cutting boards equal.
  • *Helpful Tips:
  • This site
  • can help you calculate where your table should go!

Once you’ve drawn your trim pieces, then you’ll know (IF you have textured walls) if you need to trim the side panel a bit so that all the seams are covered. OR, you can simply plan your space knowing you want your decorative pieces to fit within the 48 inch wide backerboard.

2ND STEP: NOW you can go buy your materials!Have Home Depot/Lowes cut the large board, but leave the trim pieces at home with your saw as you’ll want them to be precise (and each gap slightly different).

**** If you have smooth walls, skip STEP 5 *****

STEP 3:Cut window holes and outlet holes on your backing board. I measure the position of the cuts, draw it on the board, then use the circular saw to cut the holes for the window. For exit holes, drill a hole with a drill in the corner, then use your jigsaw to cut it out (you can also use a jigsaw for windows).

STEP 4:Apply liquid nailson the baseboard, place it on the wall and nail on the outside edges (so that the nails are covered by the bat trim).

STEP 5:Now is the time to add decorative pieces!Start with decorative pieces that frame the entire wall up, then down, then left and right. Make sure they are flat and secured with liquid nails and finishing nails.

Next, you will make your vertical decorative pieces.I find it easiest to get even spacing by measuring and marking on the top cutouts where our vertical board will go. You can also cut a board to the desired distance and use it as a spacer between vertical boards for even spacing. Helpful Hint: If doing this alone, place a nail in the center, make sure it’s flat, then nail it up and down the board. Another helpful tip: cut only one sheet at a time for precise cuts. The spacing will be slightly different because the ceiling and floor are not completely equal.

Then you glue more decorative pieces horizontally.Mark on the wall where they should go and make sure they are flat. Occasionally measure from the floor and back to make sure it doesn’t gradually rise or fall. Cut them one by one so that they are as tight as possible. (Laser levels would be very useful here, but I don’t!)

STEP 6:Fill all nail holes with wood filler, fine sand and fill in all edges and apparently. This is the step that makes the difference! If you want your space to look professional, don’t skip this step. To secure the seams, thread a small bead where the trim touches the wall, smoothing with your fingers. Helpful Tip: Keep a very damp cloth on your belt and wipe your fingers between passes.

STEP 7:Glue the walls to prepare the paint. i used thisthe best ice creamwith plastic already attached to it.

STEP 8:You are ready to paint! You can certainly roll the wall, but I wanted the smoothest finish possible, so I usedthis paint sprayer. The wall becomes very smooth and I am very satisfied with the sprayer. With a smooth wall it’s easy to show imperfections so this sprayer solved all my problems and gave me a professional look. (This sprayer requires no watering and has very little overspray. I just grabbed a bunch of cheap tarps to cover nearby furniture and taped my tape/plastic around the edges of the floating wall on mine .) * Primer is always a good idea! I used Benjamin Moore Newburg Green.

AND YOUR WALL IS DONE!It’s great isn’t it? I am very proud of you! You too should be proud! Now send me a picture on Instagram @angelarosehome
