Multi-read content how to change a honda lawn mower drive belt

To keep your lawn mower running at peak performance, regular maintenance of your Honda lawn mower is essential. Switchbelton your lawn mower is part of the routine maintenance procedures. The first time you change the belt on your Honda lawn mower, it can be a little frustrating. However, with compliancetoolsand information, this service procedure is easy to do yourself, even for less experienced mechanics.

This article explains how to replace your lawnmower’s belt and includes some tips along the way. Remember that the best source of information is always the manufacturer’s operator’s manual – read the manual before you start changing the belt on your Honda lawn mower and, most importantly, always keep safe mind.

The first step is to purchase a replacement belt. Refer to your owner’s manual to find the belt part number. Then go towww.hondalawnparts.com, and select the Honda Popular Parts tab, then select the “Belts” option and select the belt you need. Select a shipping and payment option.

Once your part arrives, you will need the following set of tools to change the belt on your Honda lawnmower:

  • 14mm socket wrench with socket extension
  • adjustable wrench
  • Long flat screwdriver
  • Pair of needle nose pliers
  • Gloves

How to change lawn mower belt:

  • Move the lawnmower to a large blanket or tarp to catch spilled water. Gas and oil can’t spill, but you better be prepared.
  • Make sure the circuit breaker is off and the engine is cold.
  • Remove the wire and starter from the spark plug, then close the fuel valve.
  • Tilt the cutter to access the cutter blade.
  • Make sure the blade is secured with some form of support: this can be a block of wood or a brick. This helps ensure that the blade does not fly off or fall off when removed. Place the block at the bottom and move the blade towards it.
  • Use a 14mm socket wrench to remove the bolts and washers that hold the blade to the knife.
  • Carefully remove the blade, being careful not to let anything sharp stick out of the body.
  • Use the socket to remove the lower Roto-Stop assembly. This can be tight and requires a hard knock on the socket wrench handle. After removing the bolts, remove the lower assembly.
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to remove the Roto-Stop spring.
  • The pair of needle nose pliers will fit in tight spaces to remove the clutch cable.
  • Remove the upper Roto-Stop assembly.
  • Next, remove both debris shields. The rear wheel covers one of the screws that hold the first fender in place. Setting these wheels to the lowest setting will keep the screw accessible.
  • Rotate the mower drive to release the old belt. Place the adjustable wrench at the bottom and use it as a handle to turn the gearbox.
  • Remove the old belt from the crankshaft drive pulley.
  • Before completely removing the old belt, the transmission tensioner spring must also be removed. Use needle nose pliers to remove the spring.
  • The old belt will now be totally free.
  • Have a new belt ready for installation.
  • Now place the new belt on the drive pulley mounted on the transmission.
  • Use a flathead screwdriver to help reconnect the tension spring.
  • Rotate the gearbox to release the tension. This will allow the belt to be placed around the pulley that drives the crankshaft.
  • Replace both debris shields and replace all screws. Return the rear wheel to its original height.
  • Then replace the upper Roto-Stop assembly. Remember to attach the clutch cable as well as the Roto-Stop tension spring.
  • Replace the lower Roto-Stop assembly and secure it with the center bolt. Hand tighten to hold the assembly, then use a socket wrench to get the job done.
  • Next comes the cutting blade. Make sure the blade holder is in place before attaching it. Place the blade (or blades if there are multiple) in the lower Roto-Stop assembly. Use the socket wrench to secure it to the bolts and washers. The bolts need a certain torque, so check your manual to see what the manufacturer’s specs are.
  • Remove the blade holder and stand the knife upright.
  • Finally, screw the fuel valve back on, attach the spark plug wire and start.
  • Congratulations on a job well done!

Again, this maintenance procedure may seem complicated, but when the operator’s manual instructions are followed step by step, the process is simple. www.hondalawnparts.com has many varietiesaccessories and partsavailable. Use the parts diagram finder to find the parts you need and order easily online.
