Multi-read content how to clean rubber floor mats

As a car owner, you not only need to make sure your car is running in top condition, but you also need to have it cleaned regularly.
upholstery and carpeting. It’s best to have your car seats cleaned by a professional, you can wash the rubber and fabric floor mats to make your car look better and smell better.

General hygiene

No matter what material you put on your car floor mats, you will need to remove them from your car first. Do not clean the carpet inside the car as
Not only do you run the risk of water damaging your car’s interior, but there’s also the possibility of oil or foam reaching the gas, brake and clutch pedals. This can cause your foot to slip off the pedals while driving.

You can wash your car’s floor mats at a gas station, in your garage, or in your parking lot. While most car floor mats are removable,
there are some that are pre-installed in the car that you have no choice but to clean them in the car.

Vacuuming

Start by vacuuming and vacuuming all the dust and dirt on the carpet. Like its hard-to-clean wet carpet, lightly sprinkle
a little baking soda on the carpet to absorb moisture and odors. Let it sit for about 10-20 minutes, then start vacuuming both sides.

Then shake or slap the mat on the floor or any hard surface to remove the dust thoroughly. You can also use a scraper to remove hard deposits from your car’s floor mats before cleaning them. Here are the basic cleaning steps for rubber and fabric car mats. The subsequent cleaning procedure will be different for different types of carpets, which will be described separately.

Clean rubber car mats

When it comes to rubber car mats, buy a good quality mat, especially if you live in the rainy and snowy north. Good rubber floor mats provide optimal moisture protection for your car interior and dry much faster than other mats.

If you buy a poor quality mat, you may end up with holes. Water can pass through the holes to reach the floor of the car. Over time, this can stain your car interior and create odors inside your car.

Wash at the faucet

Use carpet cleaner to remove dirt and food particles from rubber floor mats. Although you can use a bucket of water if you don’t have a hose, the hose creates the pressure needed to remove dirt and food particles.

Another way is to go to the car wash to wash off the dirt particles. Whichever option you choose, make sure the underside of the rug does not get wet.

Apply the soap

Next, you need to mix laundry soap and baking soda with water and then apply it to the carpet. The faucet helps remove dirt. If you don’t have baking soda, use a little liquid soap and water, as this should be enough to remove dirt from the rubber mats. Now perform a deep wash and clean the carpet using extra pressure on the faucet.

Dry the carpet

Then you need to dry the mat before putting it back in the car. Since you may not be able to wait if the carpet is washed at a gas station, you can place the carpet in the corresponding position and turn on the air conditioner at full heat. Plus, turn the fan switch to full power and set the AC position switch to foot heating for the fastest and best carpet drying solution.

Clean car mats

Use baking soda

Rub baking soda on carpets as it helps remove stains and remove pet odors, food, and other contaminants from fabric floor mats. Alternatively, you can add a little water and baking soda to the bristles of a stiff brush to clean carpets.

Use detergent and shampoo

You can scrub the carpet with a stiff brush and a mixture of two tablespoons of laundry detergent and shampoo. You can also use a small, stiff-bristled hand brush or scrub brush to scrub and remove debris from the carpet. Then rinse off the soap with clear water.

Use carpet cleaner

You can also try carpet cleaning by spraying carpet cleaners or specialized car seat cleaners on the carpet and letting it sit for 30 minutes. The carpet or upholstery cleaner will then evaporate or be absorbed by the carpet. You should then use a hand brush to thoroughly clean the mat.

You can also make your own spray by mixing each bottle of hot water and white vinegar, spraying it on the carpet, then scrubbing it clean. This is particularly effective in removing salt stains. If gum is on the carpet, apply salt and peanut butter to it and scrub the carpet to remove any remaining gum stains.

Use a steam cleaner

You can also use a steam vacuum or electric washer to clean car floor mats, such as the carpet in your home. If you don’t have an electric washing machine, you can clean the carpet in a car wash.

Use a washing machine

Another option is to wash floor mats in your washing machine with regular detergent after applying a spray stain remover.

Vacuum drying

After cleaning the carpet, vacuum again to absorb the water and remove any remaining dirt particles. It is best to use a wet/dry vacuum or a vacuum with a hose attached as they have strong suction to absorb moisture.

Leave to dry or use a blow dryer

It is important that the floor mats are completely dried by hanging them up or drying them in a clothes dryer before placing them in the vehicle. Wet carpet smells musky. You can spray some clean perfume on the carpet before drying it in the sun to give it a pleasant smell. If you dry the carpet with a dryer, use a razor to remove excess hair from the carpet.

If you are still wondering what is the best way to
clean car floor mats, it will clear a lot of your doubts!

In this video, I demonstrate how I clean rubber floor mats for your car. Your feet beat the hell out the floor mats, even with regular driving as your feet are always moving. When they transfer dirt onto the mats, they start to look gross. Even after you degrease them and let them dry, they still don’t look amazing. Unfortunately, there isn’t much you can do about it because if you put a dressing on it, you could transfer that dressing to the bottom of your feet, and when you try to press the brake pedal, it will slide right off.

If you find the need to put a dressing on the rubber mats after you’re done, its up to you, however I strongly discourage it for safety reasons. In this video, I use Meguiars Super Degreaser and Griots Garage Rubber Cleaner to clean the dirt and gunk that is stuck to the floor mats.

First rinse the heavy surface dirt, road salt, stones, or any debris on the floor mat. Apply a degreaser cleaner. You can use Super Clean Degreaser and dilute it or use it full strength. Agitate the degreaser solution with a brush like the one I purchased from chemical guys on amazon. Rinse the soap solution and dry with a microfiber towel.
