Multi-read content how to remove stuck command strips

TL; DR: Use dental floss to remove the command strips, by “flossing” between two adhesive objects.

Now here’s something really useful.

The command strips are supposed to be easy to remove – just pull the tab down and the command strip will stretch out and disappear. However, if you use a lot of command strips, you know that’s not always the case. Especially if the tapes are old or have been hanging on the wall for a long time.

Sometimes you start dragging the tab and it freezes. It was a disaster for me – I was pulling very slowly and adjusting my grip to keep it closer to the wall. And if it breaks, I pull out needle-nose pliers to clamp whatever remains accessible on the tape. And sometimes I get stuck trying to gently lift the rest of the hook and inevitably end up ripping off a smudge of paint.

Turns out I was doing it wrong. There is an easy way to get rid of stuck command strips: dental floss! Just take regular dental floss and floss after your order hook (or whatever you order to be wall stripped). This will cut the strip of paper in half, and part will stick to the hook and part to the wall. The rest is easy to scrape off, especially if you can grab a corner and stretch it.

When I decorated my door for Christmas, I used a lot of command hooks. When I removed the brackets, there were so many strips that I had to use the flossing procedure, and I think flossing actually took less time than getting them out properly. (This includes removing the hooks and residue from the door, not the residue on the hooks. This part isn’t difficult, just a little tedious.)
